Compass Parent Portal
Compass is an information management system used by the school for arranging appointments, issuing reports and recording student attendance.

All school notifications, including fortnightly newsletters and correspondence are done via Compass. It is really important to notify the school when your child is going to be away so please log on to Compass to record your child’s absence or late arrival. You can download the Compass App from the App store for iPhones or Google Play for Samsung devices.
In the App you can then open the full Compass website where you can access up-to-date information. If you have forgotten your username or password you can recover your details by clicking the ‘Don’t know your username/Forgot your password?’ link on the front page.

School Council
Bentleigh West Primary School Council oversees the school as directed by the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 and Regulations set down by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD).
The Council consists of elected parent and community members, staff members and the Principal, who meet at least eight times a year.
The School Council, as the official management body of the school, is charged with the responsibility of developing educational policies, maintaining the facilities and grounds, overseeing financial operations and ensuring a quality education for all our students.

The three specific areas of responsibility for the Council are:
-
Finance – overseeing the development of the school’s annual budget and ensuring proper records are kept of the school’s financial operation.
-
Strategic Planning – participating in the development and monitoring of the school strategic plan.
-
Policy Development and Review – developing, reviewing and updating policies that reflect a school’s values and support the school’s broad direction outlined in its strategic plan.
School Council elections are held every year, when approximately one half of School Council members retire. Members are normally voted onto School Council for two years.
School Council Sub-Committees
The School Council is supported by a strong sub-committee structure to ensure closer management and planning for key areas of the school. These sub-committees include Management, Communications, School Grounds & Environment, and Parents & Friends.
Parents do not have to be a member of School Council to be a member of a subcommittee, however a School Council member must be present at Subcommittee meetings.

Uniform
We are a school with uniform for children in Prep to Grade 6. We have a uniform policy that reinforces in students a pride in their own appearance, instils recognition of themselves as an integral part of the school community and assists in developing pride in representing their school. Issues of equality, health, safety and expense are also factors that contribute to the establishment of the Dress Code.
We believe that having a uniform:
-
Promotes equality amongst students
-
Further develops a sense of pride in and identificaation with our school community
-
Provides durable clothing that is cost effective and practical for our school environment
-
Maintains and enhances the positive image of the school community.
Our uniform policy provides an overview of the dress code and guidance on hair, jewellery and elements of the uniform.
Download the uniform policy here.
